What failed

Hired at twenty-two to co-anchor a city news programme, the pairing did not work. Seven and a half months in she was pulled off the anchor desk and reassigned to morning cut-ins, reading headlines for a few minutes at the top of the hour. She then cycled through news writing and street reporting.

What happened next

She stayed at the same station in reduced roles for over a year, then was put on a new local talk show, where the extemporaneous style that had failed on a news desk turned out to be the entire point.

The point

She was not wrong at the job, she was in the wrong format. The demotion did not tell her to stop; it told her which room she was in.

The sequence

2 documented failures, shown with the successes in between. Every entry carries its own source — the wins are part of the record, and leaving them out is how these stories get distorted.
